Compounding means custom-preparing a medication that meets your unique needs.  Compounding can customize the strength, form, and flavor of your medication.  This is perfect for any occasion when the commercially-available medication just isn't right for you.  Here are some common situations where people take advantage of compounding pharmacy:

  • Changing dosage strength (such as lowering the dosage for infants)
  • Changing dosage form (such as changing a pill into a liquid, transdermal gel, or suppository)
  • Removing allergens such as gluten or colored dyes
  • Adding flavors to mask unpleasant tastes
  • Preparing bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (HRT) creams (such as a 28-day cycle for menopausal women)
  • Making children's medication by lowering the dose, adding fruit flavors, or shaping into gummy bears and lollipops
  • Making pets' medication by choosing a form that is easier to administer
